A Brief History of The Portsmouth Lodge No:487
April 1843 – The Portsmouth Lodge was duly constituted as Lodge No. 717. The original meeting place of the Lodge was at the Quebec Hotel, Bath Square, Old Portsmouth.
April 1844 – the need was felt for more convenient premises and to private rooms at the former Crown Hotel in Portsmouth High Street.
June 1852 – moved to a new Lodge room at 126 High Street, Portsmouth.
January 1860 – the first meeting at the new Portsmouth Literary and Philosophical Society’s Hall in Highbury Street, Portsmouth took place.
January 1863 – New Register renumbered to 487.
April 1943 – The Lodge Centenary.
April 1956 – Financially The Portsmouth Lodge No:487 could not stay at Highbury Street which was sold and the Lodge moved to a Masonic Hall in Derby Road, North End, Portsmouth.
March 1972 – the Derby Road Hall was compulsory purchased and the Lodge moved to 10 Guildhall Walk Masonic Hall.
January 2001 – Guidhall Walk Masonic Hall was sold and the Lodge moved to Lake Road Masonic Hall.
January 2007 – Due to the Sale of the Lake Road Masonic Hall, the Lodge decided to move to its current premises, Harmony Hall in Queens Road, Fareham.
April 2018 – The 175th Anniversary of The Portsmouth Lodge No:487.
